"A group of young women in 1895 sporting their new Fairhope Store sundresses over Mobile Bay." . Many don't know that The Fairhope Store pre-dates the town of Fairhope by 24 years. The store stood alone in the area where the owner produced sweaters for alligators and squirrels before settlers eventually moved in and stole the Fairhope title. The name originally meant "A Fair Hope for warm alligators.".
